Planning your arrival
Guinadi takes a little reaching: you leave Pontremoli, enter the Valle del Verde, the road narrows and the air gets cooler. That is part of the village’s charm. The easiest way is to arrive with time to spare, drive gently and leave room for stops along the way.

Arriving by car
Reach Pontremoli via the A15 Parma–La Spezia motorway or the SS62, then follow Grondola, Valle del Verde and Guinadi. The final section is short but changes pace: mountain road, tight bends, narrow stretches and passing places to anticipate.
Train to Pontremoli
Pontremoli station is on the Parma–La Spezia line. It is the right rail arrival point for the area; from the station, plan the climb to Guinadi before you travel: car, taxi, local lift or checked bus.
Arriving by plane
The most practical gateways are Pisa, Parma and Genoa depending on flights. For Guinadi, renting a car makes arrival much easier; otherwise aim for Pontremoli by train and arrange the final leg to the village.
Once in the village

Mobile phone & internet
As in many mountain villages, expect uneven coverage: sometimes perfectly usable, sometimes temperamental depending on the lane, the thickness of the walls and your operator. Guinadi is not a no-signal area though: a mast east of the village provides mobile reception, and sometimes mobile internet, in several parts of the village.

- Download maps and routes before heading up, especially for paths and outings towards the river.
- Test reception outdoors: signal can change a lot between a house, a lane and an open viewpoint.

Arrive in the village, walk the lanes, pause at La Guinadese or the campo if open, then head down to Pontremoli for the historic centre.
A day from Guinadi
Morning in the lanes, then set off on foot along the paths climbing above the village: woods, views over the Valle del Verde and a real mountain feel without taking the car again.
Climb into the hills
From Guinadi, you can aim for the higher ground, chestnut woods and old ridge routes. It is often the best way to understand the village: start among the houses and watch the valley gradually open up.
Two days to slow down
One day for the village, river or mountain paths, then one day for Pontremoli, Piagnaro, Lunigiana villages and local food. It is the most comfortable pace for not rushing through everything.

Grippy shoes, water, a light jacket, power bank, offline map and a bag for rubbish. For higher paths, gorges or pools: check weather, water level and return before dark.

- For a summer stay, start looking from early May, especially around village festivals: options near Guinadi can be scarce and go quickly.
- Ask precisely about access, parking and the real distance from Guinadi: a “Pontremoli” address can mean town or a valley hamlet.
