Walking around Guinadi
The village on foot
For a first outing, stay in Guinadi: lanes, vaulted passages, church, memorial, roof views and a pause at the campo. Allow 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on your pace.
The river and waterfalls
Streams and small pools change with the season, rainfall and access on the day. Rocks can be slippery: use grippy shoes, do not swim after storms and never approach a strong current.
Giaredo gorges
The Stretti di Giaredo are a spectacular river outing, but not an improvised walk. Check access, water levels and local guides before setting out.
Choose by season
In spring, water is often plentiful and paths can be muddy. In summer, start early, carry plenty of water and respect swimming areas. In autumn, chestnut woods are beautiful but light fades quickly. In winter, check roads, ice, rain and return before dark.
Safety first
- Download the offline map and share your route.
- Never cross a swollen stream or approach waterfalls after heavy rain.
- For gorges, use a competent guide and check local conditions on the day.
Plan a full day outdoors
Combine a village loop in the morning, lunch or supplies in Pontremoli, then an outing nearby if the weather stays stable. The surroundings page gathers villages, Piagnaro and major Lunigiana sites; the Food page helps choose a good stop.
